
WASHINGTON, DC (22 February 2010) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met with US National Security Advisor General James Jones, further reinforcing the deep and productive security relationship between the UAE and the United States. The Foreign Minister and General Jones discussed how the two countries can continue to cooperate closely on regional and global security issues of mutual concern.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reiterated the UAE's steadfast support for international initiatives to stabilize Afghanistan and Pakistan, noting the country's leadership role on the issue. The Foreign Minister also expressed the UAE's continued support for reconstruction efforts in Iraq, international nonproliferation initiatives and a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Foreign Minister engages with US foreign policy experts at the Aspen Institute.
On Monday, the Foreign Minister also met with US Representative Howard Berman, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss matters of mutual interest. He also participated in a round-table discussion with US policy and national security experts hosted by the Aspen Institute, a prominent nonprofit organization that encourages dialogue and leadership.
The Foreign Minister is on a five-day visit to Washington.
