UAE Foreign Minister hosts reception in honor of the 65th United Nations General Assembly

HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs hosted a reception at the Guggenheim Museum in New York to honor the 65th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The reception was attended by senior government officials and diplomats from member states, UN officials and other prominent members of the New York community.  The Guggenheim will open a museum in Abu Dhabi in 2012. Designed by Frank Gehry, it will be the first Guggenheim in the Gulf region. 

During remarks at the reception, HH Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of the annual UNGA, thanking his fellow diplomats for their commitment. HH highlighted a few of the UAE’s main endeavors over the last year, including the UAE’s continued commitment to provide foreign aid, strides the UAE is making to develop sources of alternative energy, and the UAE’s efforts to promote regional peace and security.  The Foreign Minister stated, “the UAE takes its responsibility to international aid very seriously… is expanding its international role in the energy sector beyond just hydrocarbons… [and] will continue to play an important and constructive role for regional peace and security.” 

Earlier in the day HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan delivered his official address before the UN General Assembly.
