Expo 2020 Dubai
The World Expo is one of the world’s oldest and largest international events, taking place every five years and lasting six months. Opening in October 2021, Expo 2020 Dubai is the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, and the first to be hosted by an Arab nation. The global event reflects the UAE’s openness to the world and its inclusive vision for the future.
Over six months, 192 participating countries will come together to help shape a better, post-pandemic future by inspiring innovative solutions to overcome the world’s most challenging issues. For the first time in World Expo history, every country will have its own pavilion, where they will be able to present the best of their cultures, innovation and progress. In partnership with Cartier, Expo 2020 Dubai will also feature a Women's Pavilion to shine light on the trailblazing women who are shaping the world.
Expo 2020 Dubai coincides with the UAE’s 50th anniversary in 2021, marking an important milestone for the UAE. Over the past 50 years, the UAE has experienced rapid growth and development. At Expo 2020 Dubai, the UAE will look ahead to the possibilities that the next 50 years hold.
‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’
Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme reflects a belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas coming together in new and unique ways. Visitors to Expo will explore the power of connections across three subthemes:
- Opportunity: Unlocking the potential for individuals and communities to shape the future
- Mobility: Creating smarter and more productive movement of people, goods and ideas, both physically and virtually
- Sustainability: Respecting and living in balance with the world we inhabit to ensure a sustainable future for all
The Expo 2020 Site
The Expo gated area will feature 192 individual Country Pavilions that will showcase the unique architecture and culture of their countries. Thematic Districts reflecting the three subthemes will include Pavilions that house interactive exhibitions and engaging content. Each Thematic District will also include performance spaces, innovation galleries and art installations, and outdoor gardens.
Named after the Arabic word for ‘connection’, Al Wasl Plaza, designed by American firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, will be the centerpiece of Expo 2020. It will host major ceremonies and celebrations during and after Expo, and the venue’s dome will act as an immersive 360-degree projection surface that can be viewed from both inside and outside.
A significant number of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Official Partners and Official Suppliers are US-based and US-founded companies and organizations including:
