US Wildlife Delegation Discover UAE’s Wildlife and Conservation Efforts
February 2020. Senior US figures from leading zoos, including Disney, the San Diego Zoo, and SeaWorld, as well as wildlife management and environmental conservation organizations came together for a delegation to the UAE, with the assistance and partnership of the Aquarium and Zoological Association and UAE Embassy in Washington, DC. The group visited a variety of wildlife management and environmental conservation sites across the UAE, met with counterparts and evaluated opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships while exploring UAE’s culture, heritage and diverse natural environments.
The 13-person group met with HE Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, at the time. Among the delegates, two scientists from the Florida Keys National Sanctuary toured the Fujairah coastline, diving at natural reefs and speaking with experts. The visit was the first step in the new partnership between the Sanctuary and the Ministry. The delegates received a special invitation from HH Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan; they discussed the common vision of preserving mangrove ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. In addition, HE Zaki Nusseibeh hosted the group at his residence, where they further explored UAE culture and heritage.
