New York – May 6, 2019 – His Excellency Abdalla Shaheen, the newly appointed Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in New York, traveled to Saratoga County, New York to meet with executives from GlobalFoundries, one of the largest and most advanced semi-conductor chip maker in the world, and tour its Fab 8 manufacturing facility. Consul General Shaheen’s visit to GlobalFoundries, a Mubadala Company, reinforced the UAE-USA bilateral relationship in the Eastern US region.
Consul General Shaheen met with GlobalFoundries CEO Tom Caulfield and participated in an overview session with GlobalFoundries Senior Vice President and General Manager of US operations Ron Sampson and the Fab 8 leadership team. The overview highlighted GlobalFoundries’ economic impact in the State of New York, where the company employs over 4,000 full-time employees and has had a significant indirect impact in New York’s Capital Region through the creation of 17,000 new jobs since 2015.
Following the meetings and site tour, Consul General Shaheen joined company leaders in a virtual reality demonstration that featured GlobalFoundries’ 12nm Leading-Performance (12LP) FinFET technologies for compute-intensive applications.
Consul General Shaheen’s visit to GlobalFoundries was part of a series of introductory engagements in the US East Coast. Consul General Shaheen was officially appointed in April 2019 and will be instrumental in promoting commercial relationships, increasing cultural exchanges and enhancing cooperation between the UAE and US.
