Ambassador Al Otaiba in FT: OPEC Exit Reflects UAE’s Diversified Future

Writing in the Financial Times, UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba explains that the UAE's exit from OPEC reflects the country's progress as a diversified, knowledge-based economy.
"OPEC was built for oil-dependent states. The UAE hasn't been one for a long time," writes Ambassador Al Otaiba, noting that less than a quarter of UAE GDP is now tied to energy.
By leaving OPEC, the UAE can produce at full capacity to help ensure global energy security and economic stability. Revenues from expanded production will support infrastructure development and sustained growth.
"We have committed to a $1.4 trillion investment and technology partnership with the United States," the Ambassador writes. "This is not the profile of a country whose primary interest is managing oil supply within a collective framework."
