Fifteen years after the horrific 9/11 attacks, the UAE pauses to remember the victims of that tragic day, and their families. As we remember, we also have an unwavering resolve to combat extremism in all of its forms.

July 14 marks one year since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iran nuclear deal, was signed. In the UAE, we hoped this would signal an opportunity for Iran to engage more constructively in the region. Regrettably, it appears that Iran sees the deal as an opportunity to increase hostilities in the region.
In 2015, 70 percent of the UAE’s GDP came from non-oil sectors, including media, telecom, tourism, manufacturing and commercial aviation. Underscoring the UAE’s emergence as a hub for business, the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute recently named the UAE the top country for entrepreneurs in the MENA region.
On behalf of the leadership and people of the UAE, our deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims of yesterday’s heinous attack in Orlando. We condemn the hate and fanaticism behind this unspeakable violence. We must all work together to promote tolerance and peace.
In his keynote address to the New York University Abu Dhabi class of 2016, UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba praised graduates for their bold thinking, willingness to take risks, and openness to other people and perspectives.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash, and Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Richard Stengel announced the launch of the Sawab Center, an online engagement and messaging operation that will support the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL.
HE Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, visited Washington, DC, in late October 2008 to deliver the keynote address at the National Council on US–Arab Relations’ annual meeting. She also met with members of the US–UAE Business Council and the National US–Arab Chamber of Commerce.
