HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, delivered the Banquet Address at the 62nd annual conference of the Middle East Institute in November 2008. After his remarks, Dr. Gargash was honored with MEI’s Award for his accomplishments in promoting human rights in the United Arab Emirates.
Embassy Activities
HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met with President Bush at Camp David on November 16, 2008 to discuss regional security and global economic issues. HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was previously a guest of President Bush at Camp David in June 2008.
In a speech to the World Affairs Council of America, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), offered support to the Obama Administration and welcomed new UAE-US trade and partnership opportunities.

On September 29th, senior diplomats welcomed a group of foreign policy bloggers to the Embassy for a presentation on the history and growth of the United Arab Emirates. The bloggers, in Washington as part of an educational program organized by the Middle East Institute, engaged with their hosts in an informal discussion of UAE policy and other matters of mutual interest.
A delegation of senior Emirati women visited Washington, DC to meet with their US counterparts in government, business and think tanks, in order to exchange views on the role of women around the world and highlight the important role women hold in UAE society.
A team from the UAE Embassy's media section visited Beech Tree Elementary School on November 24th, 2009. The visit is part of the “Kids Informative Program” designed to introduce elementary school students in Fairfax County, Virginia to the UAE. The program uses the work of UAE Cartoonist “Freej” as an entertaining and informative tool to educate students about UAE culture.
