Presented by the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC and Dirwaza Curatorial Lab, an Abu Dhabi-based creative incubator, While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE features art works by a diverse group of female artists from across the UAE who span nationalities, generations and artistic styles. It celebrates and honors women who have contributed immensely to the development and progress of the UAE's vibrant and diverse creative landscape, while examining how indoor social spaces, like the living room, can foster community-building among women.

Related Event: Georgetown Art All Night
While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE opened on Friday, September 23, coinciding with the return of Georgetown’s Art All Night. As part of the Art All Night programming, the exhibition was open to visitors from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on September 23. All were welcome to view the exhibition at the Fathom Gallery in Georgetown and enjoy traditional Emirati coffee and dates. Free coloring books will be available for children.
The Georgetown Compass Coffee, located beneath the gallery, offered free coffee drinks until 9:00 PM on September 23, courtesy of the UAE Embassy, as part of the exhibition’s grand opening.
Related Event: Panel Discussion with AGSIW
On Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 PM, the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington (AGSIW) and the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC co-hosted a panel discussion featuring the curator and several artists of While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE. This event explored the crucial role of the female voice in the contemporary UAE arts and culture scene and highlighted the participants’ own experiences in this space. Ambassador Marcelle M. Wahba, President Emeritus and Distinguished Fellow at AGSIW, moderated the discussion.
