Extends Commitment to Coordinate and Provide Mutual Assistance on Response to COVID-19

This week, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to the United States (US) Yousef Al Otaiba met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to deliver a message from UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan that conveyed continued support and solidarity with the US, as both countries work to protect the public and prevent the global spread of COVID-19.

On March 3, the United Arab Emirates announced it had finished loading fuel into Unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. When all four units become operational, the plant will provide up to 25% of the U.A.E.’s electricity with zero carbon emissions.

Sheikh Abdullah and the senior US officials discussed UAE-US cooperation to create mutual prosperity and ensure security in the Middle East and around the world.

They also discussed issues of common interest, including countering extremism, resolving the conflict in Yemen and working on rebuilding and strengthening regional security.

The United Arab Emirates and the United States are close friends and strong allies with shared interests and common values. The UAE’s recent efforts to combat extremism and provide humanitarian aid to those in need support the two countries’ mutual resolve to promote Middle East security and address pressing global challenges.
